I did it!

On a very breezy and chilly Boxing Day morning, I donned my gingham pinafore and ruby slippers, and took part in the Dip and Nip at Waldringfield in aid of CLIC Sargent.
The water was estimated to be around 8 degrees Celcius.

The video of this madness is now on Youtube, with commentary from my daughter!

Boxing Day madness

At 11 am this Friday, I shall be hurling myself into the River Deben at Waldringfield, dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. I know that's not really normal behaviour, but it's the Boxing Day Dip and Nip in aid of CLIC Sargent, a charity which supports children and young people with cancer, and their families.
I have a fundraising page set up and I would be very grateful if you would consider making a donation.

Spectators are most welcome and I will post photos after the event.

Thanks folks and have a great Christmas!

Gosh, the last time I updated this blog was September 11th and we're now just a week away from Christmas. How very remiss of me! In my defense, your honour, I have in fact been very busy. Which is nice.
Over the past few months I have been photographing toddlers for Bounty (the baby pack people rather than the chocolate bar), several babies, including beautiful twins, students and horses at the Open College of Equine Studies,  some lifestyle portrait sessions, and babies and their mums in fancy dress at the Lazy Daisy Christmas parties. I've also been seeing some lovely couples to discuss the photography for their forthcoming weddings. It's been very hectic, but great fun.
Over the Christmas break I am hoping to add some of the images from the autumn to the blog, so watch this space!

After a fabulous holiday in Grenada, it's now back to work!

The children are now back at school, and the weather is quite autumnal (you might say it has been for quite a while!)

Don't despair though! Autumn provides a great backdrop for lifestyle photography. Golden leaves in the woods, crisp bright days on the beach and colourful coats, hats and scarves on a grey day make for captivating images.

If you'd rather stay indoors though, I can bring a studio set up to you or use your own home as the set.

For bookings made during September and October I am offering a half price sitting fee, so that's £35 for a lifestyle shoot, and just £20 for an 'at home' session! Please do not hesitate to contact me - the details are on my website: www.sarathomas.co.uk

And finally, all commissions to Grenada are gratefully accepted ;-p

Fields of the Nephilim

I'm just trying something a little bit funky! On Saturday night I photographed Fields of the Nephilim at the Shepherd's Bush Empire. It was very tricky as they were almost entirely backlit and there was an abundance of dry ice! I managed to get a few though and am now waiting to receive the prints from a roll of ye olde black and white film

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

Eddy Grant

On Tuesday night I was fortunate enough to have a photo pass to photograph Eddy Grant at The Junction in Cambridge. Touring for the first time in over 20 years, Eddy had warmed up by playing at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday party and at an intimate venue called Glastonbury. Surprisingly and disappointingly The Junction was about a third full. Still, after putting my camera away, it gave me plenty of room to shake my booty down on the dance floor, and with Eddy chatting away to the audience, it almost felt as if we were at a party round at his place. Looking nothing like his 60 years, Eddy performed songs from the very start of his solo career through the hits of the 80s and onto more recent material. There was a break though, when someone from the audience asked him about Nelson Mandela. "You want to know about Nelson? OK, I'll tell you..." he said, and then eulogised, slowly and quietly about the former President of South Africa. We all listened attentively and gave a spontaneous round of applause when he had finished. For all the serious words though and his songs of protest, Eddy has a sense of humour and joie de vivre which is apparent as he jokes along with his band and the audience.

Models required!

I am looking for babies between birth and one year to be photographed in their own home for my portfolio. In return for your time I will provide you with a DVD slideshow and a 10x8 inch rint. The images would be used on my website and for display so you would have to be happy for that to go ahead.
If you are interested, please contact me through my website www.sarathomas.co.uk
